From the preface of Awodat Jeruschalaim (German):
... composing this piece of music I had the musical practises of Solomo's temple in mind, how probably all were improvising independently and were free, however of one mind and in that way there was natural harmony and development of tension and narrative. In my opinion one can hear in this piece of music, which of course cannot be an exact reproduction of the musical practise of those days, that without bars and a monotonic time beating, there can be harmony and counterpoint of a higher order - as once, if ever a divine order will be, it could characterize the music, just as worldwide people are dreaming of living in freedom, nevertheless in unity
